Flag Football Drops Double Header at Wallace State
Hanceville, AL – Calhoun Flag Football dropped both games of a doubleheader at Wallace State on Sunday, October 26, in a pair of competitive contests that came down to key moments late in the day.
In Game 1, Wallace edged Calhoun 33–20 after the Warhawks nearly mounted a fourth-quarter comeback. Down 27–20 with just over two minutes remaining, Calhoun had a chance to get the ball back on a third-and-five stop, but an offsides penalty extended the Wallace drive. The Lions capitalized, finding the end zone with 10 seconds left to close the door on the rally.
Calhoun also had one touchdown called back for flag guarding and missed several scoring opportunities. Faith Roberson led the offense, completing 16-of-27 passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Leah Haynes, Lakeyn Mims, and Brooklyn Bell for scores. Roberson also rushed for 45 yards, while Charity Buchanon added 38 on the ground.
Defensively, the Warhawks made several key stops, led by Kaitlyn Lane with two sacks and five pulls. Ja'Kara Clark, Reiley Williamson, and Haynes each added six pulls.
In Game 2, Wallace State again prevailed, 31–6, after breaking open a close first half with a pair of return touchdowns. Calhoun trailed just 12–6 at halftime following a 35-yard touchdown pass from Roberson to Madison Allen late in the second quarter.
Roberson finished 13-of-26 for 78 yards, while Buchanon led the rushing attack with 32 yards. Defensively, Allen recorded an interception and three pulls, Lane and Williamson each had six pulls, and Clark added four.
Head Coach Bart Stephenson said he was encouraged by his team's continued effort and growth despite the outcomes, "I felt like our girls grew some today and fought the entire day. We have to take advantage of opportunities to score and keep playing well on defense. The effort is there, now it's about tightening up the details and finishing strong."
Calhoun (11–5) will return home on Sunday, November 2, to host Snead State (8–6) for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The Warhawks will also celebrate Sophomore Night with a pregame ceremony beginning at 2:45 p.m., marking their final home games of the season.
