Flag Football Goes 2-0 in Millbrook, Moves to 11-3
Millbrook, AL – Calhoun flag football picked up two more wins on Sunday, October 19, improving to 11–3 on the season behind another strong defensive performance and a steadily improving offense.
In game one, Calhoun edged Shelton State 9–6 in a defensive battle. Both teams struggled to find a rhythm offensively, but the Warhawks' defense stepped up with four interceptions, two from Leah Haynes, and one each from Faith Roberson and Charity Buchanon. Calhoun's lone touchdown came on a 2-yard completion from Roberson to Buchanon in the second period, and a dropped snap in the end zone by Shelton resulted in a key safety to seal the win.
The offense found its groove in game two, powering Calhoun to a 25–6 victory over Bishop State. Roberson went 15-for-25 for 78 yards and three touchdowns, with Leah Haynes hauling in two scores. Buchanon and Kaitlyn Lane each added a touchdown reception, while Roberson also rushed for 64 yards.
Defensively, the Warhawks were once again dominant, recording 23 pulls while swarming the ball. Lane anchored the defense with three sacks and five pulls, and Reiley Williamson added six pulls to help limit Bishop's offensive opportunities.
Head Coach Bart Stephenson praised both sides of the ball, saying, "This was a gritty day for our team. The defense really set the tone early and kept us in control, and the offense responded in the second game. I love the way our players are competing."
Calhoun (11-3) will be back in action on Saturday, October 26, traveling to Wallace State (12-0) for a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
