Warhawks Dominate in Flag Football Debut vs NW Shoals
Florence, AL – The Warhawks' historical Fall 2025 campaign continued on Sunday as Calhoun kicked off its inaugural flag football season with a pair of dominant victories over Northwest Shoals at the University of North Alabama. The Warhawks not only marked their program debut, but also helped launch flag football competition in the Alabama Community College Conference and NJCAA Region 22.
Calhoun wasted no time making a statement, shutting out Northwest Shoals 26-0 in the opener behind a relentless defensive effort. The Warhawks racked up 25 tackles and six interceptions, led by Leah Haynes with five pulls and one interception. Madison Allen stole the show defensively with three interceptions, including a 42-yard return for a touchdown, while Faith Roberson added two more takeaways.
On offense, Roberson finished 10-of-21 passing for 101 yards and a touchdown. Haynes was equally effective, rushing for 62 yards while adding 61 receiving yards and a score. Allen contributed 72 yards of total offense and a touchdown to cap the balanced attack.
The momentum carried into the second matchup, where Calhoun once again blanked Northwest Shoals, this time in a 33-0 victory. Roberson delivered a standout performance under center, throwing for 158 yards on 25 attempts while also rushing for 35 yards. Haynes and Allen each recorded 60 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Charity Buchanan added another score to pace the offense.
Defensively, the Warhawks continued to swarm. Haynes added another interception, and Ja'kara Clark led the unit with six pulls and a forced pass. The pass rush was a difference-maker, as Calhoun collected five sacks, with Reiley Williamson recording three of them along with two forced passes.
"This was a great way to start our program and showcase what flag football can be at this level," said Head Coach Bart Stephenson. "Our team played with energy and discipline, and I'm proud of how they represented Calhoun and the conference in this historic debut."
With the sweep, Calhoun opens its inaugural season at 2-0. The Warhawks will return to action on Sunday, September 21, in Montgomery, AL, with matchups against Shelton State and Lurleen B. Wallace.
