Warhawks Open 2025 Softball Season with Sweep of Cleveland State
The Warhawks got a pair of home runs from Addison Wallace, and strong pitching in a sweep of the Cougars.
The Calhoun Community College softball team opened the 2025 campaign in style on Tuesday, earning a sweep of visiting Cleveland (TN) State in non-conference play, taking the opener by a 9-4 final, and capping the doubleheader with a 7-3 victory.
In the season-opening game, the Warhawks never trailed after plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and were paced by the bat of Addison Wallace, who finished the game 3 for 4, including a home run.
Leah Haynes also added a pair of hits and a pair of runs for the Warhawks, while Macy Hancock chipped in with a pair of singles. Keara Hall score twice, and reached base three times, drawing a pair of walks to go with a single.
That offensive outburst was more than enough for pitcher Bronwyn Borden, who tossed five innings for Calhoun, conceding just three hits and one earned run, while fanning six batters to pick up the win.
In the nightcap, the Warhawks trailed 3-0 before touching the bats, but the offense remained hot, answering with three runs in the bottom of the first, while the pitching staff held the Cougars scoreless the rest of the way to complete the sweep.
Wallace again shined at the plate for Calhoun, belting a three-run home run, her second home run of the day and capping a 6-RBI performance in the doubleheader. Hancock and Kenley Holcombe each added a trio of hits in Game 2, while Mallie Yarbrough and Hall chipped in RBIs.
Baylee Mills came on in relief of starter Kaylee Williams, who did not give up an earned run in her 2.2 innings, to earn the win. Mills tossed the final 4.1 innings, giving up just three hits and striking out six Cleveland State hitters.
The Warhawks open the year with eight-straight home games, with the next chance to see the Warhawks on February 12, when they host Motlow in a doubleheader set to being at 1 p.m.
Other home games in February included a doubleheader on February 14 against Columbia State, and a doubleheader on February 18 against Northwest Mississippi.
