Men's Golf Season Ends at National Championship
PLYMOUTH, IN – Calhoun men's golf wrapped up its 2025-26 season at the NJCAA National Championship held at Swan Lake Golf Resort, finishing tied for 21st in a loaded national field after four demanding rounds of competition.
Facing one of the toughest courses and deepest fields of the season, the Warhawks battled through a difficult opening round on Tuesday that ultimately put them behind the pace for the remainder of the tournament. Calhoun carded a +24 team score in round one, with every Warhawk finishing above par as the team searched for rhythm on the challenging layout.
The Warhawks responded on Wednesday with one of their strongest individual rounds of the week, led by freshman Sammy Holmes. Holmes fired an impressive 2-under (70) to help Calhoun climb several spots on the leaderboard and keep the team within striking distance heading into the back half of the tournament.
Thursday proved to be another difficult test, however, as Calhoun again posted a +24 team round. Despite the team struggles, Jesse Kilgore provided one of the highlights of the tournament for the Warhawks with an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole.
Calhoun closed out the championship on Friday with Kilgore pacing the lineup at 3-over (75), but the Warhawks were unable to make another significant move up the standings. The team ultimately finished tied for 21st overall at +89 across the four-round event.
Individually, Holmes led Calhoun with a 55th-place finish in the field of 152 golfers. AJ Bradford finished 68th overall, while Jesse Kilgore placed 82nd. Jayce Hutchens, Jackson Yeager, and Michael Irons rounded out the Warhawk lineup at the national championship.
Head coach Richard Morgan praised his team despite the final result, emphasizing both the experience gained and the progress the program has made. "Obviously this wasn't the finish we wanted and not the week we hoped to have here in Plymouth, but I'm still incredibly proud of these guys," Morgan said. "They've helped raise the standard of Calhoun golf and get this program back onto the national stage. Having four freshmen experience an event like this is huge for our future and trajectory as a program, and I think it's something we'll build on moving forward."
Calhoun men's golf now closes the book on the 2025-26 campaign after another successful season under Morgan's leadership, with the Warhawks positioned to take another step forward heading into the fall season.
