Women's Golf Competes at ACCC Championship
BREWTON, AL – Despite being limited by injuries throughout the season, Calhoun women's golf showed resilience and growth at the ACCC Championship Tournament, competing April 13-14 in Brewton, Alabama.
Unable to field a full four-player team, the Warhawks entered three individuals into the conference championship, and each delivered strong performances against a competitive field of 43 golfers.
Freshman Kenley Staats set the tone in Monday's opening round, leading Calhoun with a steady performance that included shooting par or better on seven holes. Her round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 14th, showcasing her ability to capitalize on key scoring opportunities.
On Tuesday, the Warhawks saw continued consistency from their lineup. Emma Thomas and Sadie Graham each carded rounds of 85 to close out the tournament. Graham added a highlight of her own with a birdie on the par-4 12th, capping off a solid two-day showing.
In the final individual standings, Thomas paced the Warhawks with a 24th-place finish, followed closely by Graham in 26th and Staats in 32nd. The trio's performance reflected the team's perseverance and steady improvement throughout a season challenged by limited numbers.
Head coach Richard Morgan praised both the growth of his young players and the leadership of his veterans. "I'm really proud of the growth we've seen from our freshmen this year, not just in their game, but in how they've handled adversity," Morgan said. "We've dealt with injuries all season, and they've continued to show up and compete. I'm also proud of our sophomores, especially Emma, for setting the standard and showing these younger players what it takes to compete and be successful at this level."
Calhoun will now turn set their sights on the NJCAA District IV Championship Tournament on April 22-23.
