Softball Cruises Past Southern Union in Sweep
Decatur, AL / Wadley, AL — Calhoun softball turned in a strong conference showing this past week, sweeping a four-game series against Southern Union.
The Warhawks opened the series at home in Decatur on Thursday before traveling to Wadley for the final two games on Friday.
Game 1 – Calhoun 4, Southern Union 3
Calhoun rallied from an early deficit to take the opener, using a big fourth inning to secure the win.
Trailing 3-1, the Warhawks broke through with three runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead and held Southern Union scoreless the rest of the way. Addi Wallace led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate.
In the circle, Addi Wilson went the distance, earning the complete-game victory to give Calhoun the early series advantage.
Game 2 – Calhoun 8, Southern Union 1
The Warhawks carried their momentum into game two, combining strong pitching and timely hitting in an 8-1 win.
Calhoun set the tone early with four runs in the first inning and never looked back. After Southern Union plated a run in the second, the Warhawks added insurance with four runs over the next three innings.
Emellie Hamilton tossed her first complete game of the season, allowing just one run while keeping the Bison offense in check. At the plate, Madison Allen powered the offense with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double, a triple, and two RBI, while Missey French added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
Game 3 – Calhoun 2, Southern Union 1
With the series shifting to Wadley, Calhoun battled through a tightly contested game to secure the series win.
The Warhawks struck early with two runs in the top of the second inning before Southern Union answered with one in the bottom half. Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the way as Calhoun's pitching and defense preserved the narrow lead.
Addi Wilson earned her second win of the series in the circle, while Tabitha Frazier and Morgan Lane each drove in a run.
Game 4 – Calhoun 4, Southern Union 3
Calhoun completed the sweep with another close victory in the series finale.
The Warhawks jumped out quickly, scoring all four of their runs in the first two innings. Southern Union chipped away with one run in the third and two more in the sixth to tighten the game, but Calhoun held firm late.
Kaylee Williams earned the start and the win, while Emellie Hamilton came on in relief to secure the save. The Warhawks produced four runs on seven hits, with three different players recording an RBI.
Head coach Denton Bowling praised his team's effort across the two-day stretch. "This was a tough, gritty series for us," Bowling said. "Playing back-to-back days, our group had to grind, and we found ways to win even when the bats weren't as hot."
Calhoun will return to action on Thursday, April 9, traveling to Gadsden State for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
