Women's Golf Hosts Spring Classic in Decatur
Decatur, AL – Calhoun women's golf hosted their lone home event of the 2025–2026 season Monday and Tuesday at Burningtree Country Club, welcoming a strong field for a successful two-day tournament.
Organized by head coach Richard Morgan, PGA, the event featured eight of the top programs in the Southeast and a field of nearly 50 golfers. Shelton State claimed both the team championship and the individual low medalist honors, highlighting the level of competition throughout the tournament.
Despite being limited by injuries, Calhoun competed with three individual golfers and still turned in solid performances on their home course.
Emma Thomas led the way for the Warhawks, finishing 26th overall. Thomas posted consistent rounds with a 91 on both days and was highlighted by a birdie in the opening round on the par-3 sixth hole.
Kenley Staats also had a notable moment early in the tournament, recording a birdie on the par-4 first hole, her opening hole of the event. Staats continued to battle throughout both rounds, contributing a steady performance for Calhoun.
Sadie Graham rounded out the Warhawks' competitors, adding another solid showing as Calhoun represented well despite the limited roster.
While the Warhawks were unable to compete as a team due to injuries, the event itself once again proved to be a strong showcase for the program and the host site.
Head coach Richard Morgan expressed pride in both the execution of the tournament and his team's effort. "I thought the event ran really smoothly, and we're grateful for all the programs that came out and helped make it such a special tournament," Morgan said. "I'm proud of how our girls competed this week. We would have loved to have been out there with a full lineup, but that's part of the game sometimes. Even with that, I thought we showed a lot of fight."
Calhoun women's golf will now turn their attention to postseason play, competing in the ACCC Championship Tournament on April 13–14.
