Warhawks Sweep Doubleheader at Cleveland State
Cleveland, TN – Calhoun softball continued their strong start to the week Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Cleveland State in a pair of six-inning run-rule victories, 17-6 and 11-3.
The sweep builds on momentum from last weekend in Dothan, where the Warhawks earned their first win of the season. On Tuesday, Calhoun's offense erupted for 28 total runs across the two games, while the pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts.
Game 1 – Calhoun 17, Cleveland State 6 (6 innings)
The Warhawks set the tone early in the opener, piling up 17 runs on 16 hits in a dominant offensive performance.
Emily Burgreen led the charge, going 4-for-5 with a double, home run, five RBI, and three runs scored. Tabitha Frazier also added a huge day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBI.
Madison Allen recorded three hits, including three doubles, and drove in three runs, while Keara Hall tripled and added an RBI. Tessa Jacobs collected two hits and an RBI, and Kenley Holcombe doubled, walked, and scored twice as Calhoun consistently pressured Cleveland State's defense.
In the circle, Kaylee Williams earned her first win of the season, tossing five innings while striking out six. Aynslee Malone worked the final inning to close out the run-rule victory.
Game 2 – Calhoun 11, Cleveland State 3 (6 innings)
Calhoun kept their foot on the gas in Game 2, scoring 11 runs on eight hits to complete the sweep.
Kenley Holcombe reached base three times, scoring twice and driving in a run, while Addison Mikel delivered a key two-RBI hit. Tessa Jacobs added two RBI, and Keara Hall drove in two additional runs. Missey French doubled and knocked in a run, while Tabitha Frazier and Emily Burgreen each added an RBI.
The Warhawks showed discipline at the plate, drawing six walks and striking out just once in the game.
Addi Wilson was dominant in the circle, allowing just two hits and one run over five innings while striking out six. Emellie Hamilton worked the final inning as Calhoun secured its second run-rule win of the day.
Head Coach Denton Bowling praised his team's approach after the sweep. "Our energy and approach were exactly what we've been asking for," Bowling said. "We know we can compete, and we're working to get better as a team everyday. We got to see the results of that work this afternoon."
Calhoun will look to carry Tuesday's momentum into the weekend when they head to the Turf Wars Invitational for three games on Friday, February 13.
