Men's Soccer Falls to Northeast Alabama Despite Strong Effort
Decatur, AL – Calhoun Men's Soccer fell 5-1 on Saturday to Northeast Alabama at Jack Allen Soccer Complex. The Mustangs jumped out quickly, striking in the opening minutes before adding two more to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Warhawks responded early in the second half when Anthony Ortiz buried a goal to cut into the deficit, sparking a push as Calhoun looked to claw back into the match. Despite creating several quality chances and keeping the play even through much of the half, the Mustangs capitalized on two more opportunities to seal the 5-1 result.
Head Coach Felix Obilo noted both the positives and the areas for improvement: "I thought our guys did a good job sticking to the game plan, but we've got to be sharper defensively and avoid giving up those breakdowns. Up front, our strikers need to play with more confidence and take the first chance instead of hesitating. I'm really proud of players like Jeremiah Batista - he works hard every day in practice and makes a strong impact when he gets his opportunities. That kind of determination is exactly what we need across the board."
With the loss, Calhoun slips to 1-6 on the season. The Warhawks will host Southern Union on Wednesday, October 1 at 5 p.m.
