Volleyball Opens Season 3-1 at Alabama/Mississippi Crossover
Fulton, MS - In their first action of the 2025 campaign, the Warhawks turned in an impressive 3-1 showing at the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover hosted by Itawamba Community College.
After dropping the season opener to Northwest Mississippi (15-25, 23-25, 25-19, 18-25), the Warhawks bounced back in dominant fashion, sweeping their next three opponents. Calhoun rolled past Southwest Mississippi (25-16, 25-14, 25-9), battled host Itawamba in a competitive three-set win (25-18, 25-20, 25-23), and closed the weekend with a sweep of Meridian (25-13, 25-16, 25-18).
Sophomores Ava Boyll and Laney Kelley led the way, each being named to the All-Tournament Team. Boyll tallied 41 kills on a .224 hitting percentage, along with 27 digs and 3 aces. Kelley was dominant at the net, recording 24 kills while hitting .378, and adding 8 solo blocks and 4 aces.
The Warhawks' depth also shined throughout the weekend. Lucy Means anchored the defense with 50 digs, while contributing 6 aces and 11 assists. Maddie Schwabe guided the offense with 65 assists, while also adding 17 digs and 6 aces.
"We saw a lot of good things this weekend and also learned where we can grow," said head coach Jamiee Freeman. "For our first matches of the season, I was proud of how we competed and how different players stepped up in big moments. This is a great foundation for us to build on moving forward."
The Warhawks return home on August 28 to host Northwest Shoals at 5:30 p.m.
